Ovarian Cysts

A cyst occurs when the small egg sac (follicle) on the ovary does not release an egg, and it swells with fluid either inside the ovary or on its surface

Ovarian cysts are painful. This comes from someone whohas experienced a ruptured ovarian cyst before. The pain can double your over and over the counter pain releivers are no help. A diagnoses sometimes can take 6 months or longer.

One of the most pronounced symptoms is a sharp stabbing pain in your lower right or left side close to your hip bones. This happens about mid cycle and can last for 2 to 3 days.

Because functional ovarian cysts typically go away without treatment within 1 to 2 menstrual cycles, your health professional may recommend a period of observation without treatment (watchful waiting) to see whether your ovarian cyst gets better or goes away on its own. Your health professional will do another pelvic exam in 1 to 2 months to see whether the cyst has changed in size.
